Code from the Google App version 7.1.21 beta has hinted at what could be in store for the next updates. The strings, discovered by Android Police, indicate that Google could be about to introduce a pollen counter to the app and add a search bar to the notification area.
Google already delivers weather updates for users, warning them if they’re in for heavy rain and suchlike, so it makes sense that it would also include a pollen counter — and launching it ahead of this summer would be good news for hay fever sufferers.

OK, so this probably isn’t something you’re going to want to try because alpha release apps are generally awfully buggy (as this one is), but some folks getting the latest alpha of the Google app are reporting that it enables Google Assistant on non-Pixel phones.
Android Police reported the feature, but noted that the alpha app’s release in the beta channel was likely a mistake. If you want to be notified when a new Google Doodle is added to the company’s main search homepage, you can now do so with the Google app for Android.
