Google Play Music is crashing for some users – here’s the (temporary) fix

Less than a week ago, Google Play Music version 7.9.4920 began rolling out to Android users, featuring support for Android O’s notification channels and a revamped search history view. These are some handy new additions to the music app, sure, but what isn’t so great is the pesky Bluetooth bug the update brought along with it.

After the update, many users have been complaining that the app is crashing on launch. It seems to be a pretty widespread issue, and not tied down to any specific device or Android version. There appears to be a problem with Google Play Music and random stops

A longstanding Google Play Music problem has risen again. Reddit members and Google product forum-goers are reporting that Google Play Music stops playing, seemingly at random, on a range of devices.

The resurgence of the issue, which was first added to the Google Product forums last July, may be linked to a recent update: there are many Google Pixel owners who are now reporting the problem, and the same issue appears to occur when using Google Play Music with Google Home (which is also yet to be resolved).

The premise of City Soundtracks is that each episode focuses on one artist, and the [...]

Google Play Music version 7.4 adds “recents” option, song count now stands at 40 million

In the latest Google Play Music update, Google has added a “recents” option to the menu where you’ll find all your last played songs. The feature isn’t new as far as music apps are concerned but it is the first time it has appeared in Google’s music streaming service. What’s more, Google Play Music now boasts 40 million songs, up five million on the previous count.

The update comes as part of the Google Play Music version 7.4 update, which should be rolling out in the Play Store soon, and also brings a handful of other small tweaks, such as a new animation when you press play.

It’s not a huge update but it’s Google’s small refinements that helped form our [...]
